Now that you know a little about oils and may have gotten your own, here are the top 10 recipes you should have in your home, ready at all times. As mentioned in my previous article, I use Young Living oils, so you may not be able to find some of the blends on these lists at your local health store or Amazon, as they pertain specifically to Young Living. I will, however, list the ingredients in each blend.

Also, a little note on carrier oils. Carrier oils such as fractionated coconut, sweet almond, or jojoba oil are not the same as essential oils. They are meant to dilute your essential oils and carry them to your skin. Adding them does not make your oils less potent, but rather allow your oils to last longer.

5 EO Recipes Necessary for Kids
*These recipes are diluted for kids ages 2+

1. Immune Boost

As a mom of multiples, I hate when one of my kids gets sick because that means, inevitably, it’s only a matter of time before the other one gets sick…possibly even worst than when the first one had it. So in efforts to prevent sickness, or to lessen the amount of sick days, the girls use their immune booster roller everyday. Ok fine, most days.

In a 10mL roller bottle, put:
-5-10 drops of Thieves (clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus radiata, rosemary)
-5-10 drops of Lemon
-5-10 drops of Copaiba
-Fill the rest with a carrier oil of your choice.

Directions: Roll on the back of the neck, lower spine, or bottoms of feet (put socks on if you’re going this route) up to 3 times daily, up to 5 if they’re sick.

2. Cough Relief

Essential oils are not a cure-all. They’re not magic. We still get sick and sometimes, it’s healthy to get sick so our immune systems stay strong. However, in our experiences since using EO’s, our sicknesses haven’t gone further than coughs and low fevers. And when we get coughs, we use our cough relief roller, which works LIKE A CHARM.

In a 10mL roller bottle, put:
-5-10 drops of R.C. (eucalyptus globulus, myrtus, marjoram, pine, eucalyptus radiata, eucalyptus citriodora, lavender, cypress, black spruce, peppermint)
-5-10 drops of Lemon
-Fill the rest with a carrier oil of your choice

Directions: Roll on throat to suppress a cough.

3. Owies

Scrapes, bruises, cuts, dry patches of skin, raw skin. Kids are kids and they’re going to get all of the symptoms above at some point. That’s when you’ll need the owie roller. Not only will it help soothe the pain, it smells amazing.

In a 10mL roller bottle, put:
-5-10 drops of Lavender
-5-10 drops of Frankincense
-Fill the rest with a carrier oil of your choice.

Directions: Roll on wherever the owie occurred as often as needed.

4. Tummy Troubles

What do you do when your kid has major gas, indigestion, diarrhea or constipation?? Well, in our home, we roll our tummy troubles roller. I am constantly amazed at how quickly this stuff works. Every time I’ve used it on my girls, their tummy issues were alleviated in a matter of a few minutes.

In a 10mL roller bottle, put:
-5-10 drops of DiGize (tarragon, ginger, peppermint, juniper, aerial parts oil, fennel seed, lemongrass, anise fruit, patchouli)
-5-10 drops of Orange
-Fill the rest with a carrier oil of your choice.

Directions: Roll over the area of pain and massage the belly.

5. Happy Roller

Is your kid having a bad day? Are they having a meltdown? Suffering from hanger (anger followed by excessive hunger)? Well thank goodness you brought that happy roller in your purse!

In a 10mL roller bottle, put:
-5-10 drops of Stress Away (balsam copaiba, lime, cedarwood, vanilla, ocotea, lavender)
-5-10 drops of Orange
-Fill the rest with a carrier oil of your choice.

Directions: Douse your kid in this! Just kidding. Roll on the back of the neck, behind ears, and/or wrists. They don’t want to do it because they’re that pissed off? Sneak a couple rolls on them wherever you can, mama.  If not for them, for you.

Ok so the kids are good. They’re healthy, no one’s coughing, their scrapes are feeling better, they’re tummies are tame, and they’re happy as a clam. Now what about you, mama? Don’t have wine? Don’t worry, I got you covered.

5 EO Recipes Necessary for Mamas

1. Headache

You feel it coming on. That annoying blunt pain that keeps going in and out. You think it’ll go away, but it just keeps getting stronger, ever so slightly but noticeably. Don’t keep waiting for it to go away. Bust out that “Triple Threat” roller in your bag and use it. Now!

In a 10mL roller bottle, put:
-10 drops of Panaway (wintergreen, helichrysum, clove, peppermint)
-10 drops of Peppermint
-10 drops of Copaiba
-Fill the rest with a carrier oil of your choice.

Directions: Depending on the strength of your pain, either roll on your temples (not too close to the eyes, though), roll over the actual area of pain, or roll all over the crown where your hairline meets your skin.

2. Bloating

Ok so I wrote bloating, but what I really mean is “bloating/overeating/indigestion/gas/constipation…”, pretty much any or all of the Pepto Bismol symptoms. I don’t know about you, but I get one or more of these symptoms multiple times, daily, around my time of the month. This is when my Tummy Roller is pretty much my BFF.

In a 10mL roller, put:
-15 drops Digize
-10 drops Peppermint
-10 drops Copaiba
-Fill the rest with a carrier oil of your choice.

Directions: Roll over your tummy and massage the oils into your belly, where the pain is occurring.
Other option: Fill a gel capsule with 2 drops of each oil and a couple of drops of grape seed or olive oil and take with water.

3. Hangover

You had an MNO (mom’s night out) last night. Good for you!! You can’t really remember every single part of the night, but it must have been a LOT of fun because you’re paying for it today. I don’t have a roller recipe for this, but I do have a strategy and it still most definitely include EO’s.

Oils you’ll need:
-Your Tummy Roller from #2

Directions: Apply and rub peppermint oil to your temples and forehead for headaches, NEAT. This means you don’t have to use a carrier oil. Roll your Tummy Roller on your tummy and liver. Add a couple of drops of Grapefruit oil to your water and drink it all day. This will help flush out toxins from your body and keep you hydrated.

4. Calm Mama

You’re having THAT kind of a day where everything is not going the way you want, or shall I say, need. Everyone from your mom to husband to kids is annoying the heck out of you. You need a break from all the chaos around you. Sit back, roll your Calm Mama blend, and breathe in.

In a 10mL roller bottle, put:
-10 drops Lavender
-10 drops Grapefruit
-10 drops Orange
-Fill the rest with a carrier oil of your choice.

Directions: Roll behind your ears, back of your neck, and on your wrists. Rub your wrists together and take long deep breaths and take in all that goodness.

5. Energy Boost

Got that sluggish feeling in the afternoon and need a little something to push you through the rest of your day? Because let’s face it, kids get to nap, but you don’t and you still have to go home and cook dinner and give the kid/s a bath, do dishes, and clean up before you can FINALLY relax and have some you time. So roll this.

In a 10mL roller bottle, put:
-10 Peppermint
-10 Lemon or Orange
-Fill the rest with a carrier oil of your choice.

Directions: Roll behind your ears, back of neck, and wrists. Inhale while you rub your wrists together and get ready to tackle the rest of your day. Because mama, you are a strong woman, and you got this!!

Thanks for the recipes they look great. Can you please tell me how to adjust the children’s recipes for 11 and 13 year olds?

    • Kay Lee

      Hi there!

For those ages, I would probably go with the same recipes I listed, but go higher on the amounts of drops. So for example, for the Immune Boost, I’d do 8-10 drops of each oil, rather than 5-6, does that make sense?. Hope that helps!
